Wencon Products for Superyachts
A Regular Problem:
Superyachts are regularly confronted with galvanic corrosion problems. Overboard pipes, in particular, quite often cause problems. Problems are caused by the use of different metals in combination with seawater. The metal with the lowest potential starts to corrode. Leakages are in this situations a big problem because seawater easily enter the ship. Protection of this pipes with Wencon metal-free Epoxy based products are the solution. It protects this essential parts of the ship against bi-metalic corrosion and prevent leakages.
Emergency Call:
This week we received a call from a customer with serious corrosion problems in two overboard pipes. The weldings where corroded and the pipes showed serious bi-metalic corrosion inside. With high gloss special paints on the superyachts hull it was so close to the season no option to replace the pipe due to the need of welding to the ships hull.
Wencon RMN Repair Solution:
In consultation with the Class Surveyor we made a repair plan to protect the pipe for the summer season. The proposed Wencon Pipe Wrap Method was the solution and the Class Approved the repair for the summer season. Planning will now be made to renew both pipes in the winter. We recommend to apply the Wencon Coating system in the new pipe when installed in the winter to protect this part for a long time.

Wencon Products holds Class Type Approval by DNV-GL, ABS & RINA.
Outcome:
Finally Customer happy – Class Surveyor happy – we as RMN are happy that we could offer a repair solution.
